Longmenhao

Day 1: Welcome to Chongqing!

Arrive in Chongqing, one of China’s four municipalities and one of the most populous cities in the world. Start your exploration at Kuixinglou, a prime example of how the city’s modern architecture and city planning had to adapt to its unique topography - Walk out the 22nd floor only to realise you’re still at street level!! Then, visit the Huguang Guild Hall, historically a gathering place for merchants and traders, offering a glimpse into trade among different regions in China. Wrap up your day with a leisurely stroll along the Mountain City Alley, where the old city walls whisper stories of the past, and enjoy a traditional Chongqing hot-pot dinner.

Liziba

Day 2: Dive Deeper into the Mountain City

Our second day starts with a visit to Liziba, known for the unique sight of a monorail passing through a residential building. Take a languid walk around Eling Garden for panoramic views of the converging Jialing and Yangtze Rivers. In the afternoon, explore Ciqikou, an ancient town that grew around a thriving port. Admire the juxtaposition of old and new, most noticeable at the beautiful Baolun Temple. Don’t miss the Chongqing 1949 Rotating Theatre performance nearby and concluding the day with dinner at an innovative Sichuan restaurant.

Dazu Rock Carvings

Day 3: Day trip to Dazu Rock Carvings

Embark on a day trip to the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located two hours from the city. These impressive rock carvings, dating back to the 7th century, feature over 10,000 sculptures showcasing Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian themes. Spend your day wandering the intricately carved cliffs of Baoding Mountain Qiantao, taking time to appreciate the craftsmanship of these magnificent sculptures. Return to Chongqing for a relaxing evening.

Day 4: A Day at a Mountain Retreat

Today, drive out to Jinfo Mountain, renowned for its misty mountain scenery that adds to its mystical allure. Take a walk along its dramatic cliffs before retreating to a local boutique hotel in the mountains, where you will enjoy a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery. This mountain hideaway is the perfect spot to unwind for a day, sip on local tea, slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of mountain life as you prepare for the next leg of your journey.

Wulong Karst

Day 5: Exploring Wulong Karst County

Continue the drive to Wulong, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is a natural wonder of spectacular karst landscapes formed by millions of years of geological activity. Your first stop is the Three Natural Bridges, where you’ll witness breathtaking views of the giant limestone arches and deep gorges that define the area. Explore the old official postal station that served as a backdrop for Zhang Yimou's film, “Curse of the Golden Flower”, and wander through lush landscapes that will leave you in awe. As the sun sets, drive up to Fairy Mountain and settle into your hotel for the night.

Day 6: Embracing Nature at Fairy Mountain

Wake up in the alpine wonderland of beautiful Fairy Mountain, referred to by the locals as "Little Switzerland". Take a walk around the hotel’s  grounds, soaking in pristine forests while breathing in the crisp, fresh air. Optional scenic train ride to explore more of Xiannvshan’s landscapes. Later in the afternoon, you'll make the 3.5-hour journey back to Chongqing, where you can enjoy a leisurely dinner and relish the fond memories of your mountain escape.

Day 7: Farewell Chongqing...

On your final day, savour a local breakfast of Chongqing Noodles and enjoy some last-minute shopping in Jiefangbei. Try some street snacks and buy some souvenirs, visit the People’s Liberation Monument and relax in a local park as this wonderful trip comes to a close.
