Wellness Retreat: 5-Day Return to Balance in Dali

Blog Image

Set against the soft light of Yunnan’s highlands, with the Cangshan Mountains rising behind and Erhai Lake stretching quietly in the distance, Dali has long been a place of reflection, creativity, and slow living. This retreat is designed as a gentle reset, centred on daily yoga and sound meditation, complemented by light cultural exploration and time immersed in nature. Each day is anchored by two wellness sessions—morning Yin Yang Yoga to awaken and balance the body, and evening sound meditation to encourage deep rest and integration. Between sessions, the programme unfolds at an unhurried pace, with easy sightseeing, hands-on experiences, and moments of free time to simply slow down. Nourishing, thoughtfully prepared cuisine supports the journey throughout, allowing guests to feel held, restored, and fully present.

Day 1 – Arrival in Dali: Welcome and Initiation

Arrive in Dali and enjoy a smooth transfer from the train station to Daji Hotel. The afternoon is intentionally slow—time to settle into your room, enjoy afternoon tea, and ease into the rhythm of the retreat. As evening falls, gather for a welcome dinner featuring nourishing, thoughtfully prepared dishes. The day concludes with an evening sound bath session, allowing vibrations and stillness to gently mark the transition into retreat mode.

Day 2 – Tea Hills and Gentle Flow

Begin the day with Yin Yang Yoga, a balanced practice combining grounding movement and mindful breath. Enjoy a bowl of bridge-crossing noodles in Dali Old Town before we travel into the surrounding countryside for a tea picking activity, connecting directly with the land and learning about Yunnan’s deep tea heritage. Dinner is relaxed and unhurried, followed by an evening sound bath to encourage deep rest and integration.

Day 3 – Old Town Rhythms and Tie-Dye Patterns

After our morning practice and breakfast, set out for Xizhou Old Town, where Bai architecture, open courtyards, and everyday village life create a quieter rhythm. Lunch showcases Yunnan’s celebrated mushroom cuisine, enjoyed at a relaxed pace. The afternoon is spent with a traditional tie-dye workshop, learning about Bai craftsmanship and colour symbolism, followed by free time for rest, journaling, or a gentle stroll before dinner back at the hotel.

Day 4 – Temple Paths, Erhai Lake and Vegetarian Cuisine

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic walk from the hotel to Wuwei Temple, a peaceful route that invites stillness and reflection. The afternoon is free, with the option of a leisurely walk or cycle along Erhai Lake, taking in expansive water views and mountain air. In the evening, gather for a special vegetarian omakase dinner, where seasonal, plant-based cuisine is presented with care and balance, bringing the day to a quiet close.

Day 5 – Closing and Return

The retreat concludes with a closing meditation. After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed transfer back to the train station for your onward journey, departing Dali feeling grounded, restored, and reconnected.

This Dali wellness retreat is not about transformation through intensity, but renewal through gentleness. With mindful movement, sound healing, creative expression, and time spent immersed in nature, the experience offers a rare opportunity to slow down and listen—both to the landscape and to oneself. Set within one of Yunnan’s most soulful regions, it is an invitation to return home feeling lighter, clearer, and quietly restored.
